      2. Make sure some other software did not cause Chatman to go quiet. Open the Windows mixer tool and make sure the Chatman volume is not too low.
      3. Try to unplug Chatman and plug him back in. If Windows pops up messages about new devices and/or installations – please let the process finish – this can take up to 3 minutes.

Please open the Windows Control Panel:

For Windows Vista: or Windows 7: Select ‘Sound’

    • Chatman doesn't respond when I chat with friends

Chatman works with Facebook chat, Windows Live Messenger and Skype (Facebook is supported via Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome browswers on PC and Safari, Firefox, Chrome browsers on Mac).

If you're using one of these Chatman should respond if recognized words and phrases are sent by your friends. Chatman does not respond to what you write (unless you’re talking with Chatman in the Chat with Chatman page).

Please note that Chatman does NOT work with the Windows Messenger that is included with Windows XP so please download the Windows Live Messenger or any other modern chat software.

If you do not see the Chatman window or if Chatman doesn't respond to words you know it should respond to (ask your friends to send you a "hi" message as a test), please restart the Chatman software.

Skype requires that Chatman be approved. When you first installed Chatman and ran Skype, you were supposed to see a message that says "Chatman.exe want to access Skype…" asking you to allow access or deny access. If you’ve not seen this message or you denied access, please do the following:

In Skype, click Tools, then Options, then Advanced and at the bottom you’ll see a "Manage other programs’ access to Skype". Click that and in the list that appears locate "Rondyo.Chatman.Chatman.exe", click it and then click the "Remove" button. Click OK all the way back and then restart the Chatman software.

Now Skype should show you the "Rondyo.Chatman.ChatmanEngine.exe want to access Skype…" message and you must click the "Allow access".

If it still doesn’t work – make sure you have the latest updates to the Chatman software. See How do I keep my Chatman software updated?.

If the problem persists, email us the name and version of the chat software you use. You may need to download a different version of the chat software.

    • I can't record myself

As Chatman does not include a microphone, you must connect a microphone to your computer in order to record yourself. The software will tell you if it can’t hear you and you can set the microphone volume from inside the Audio panel.

Note: You can only record up to 30 seconds of audio.

    • My voice sounds strange when I record myself

First, you should know that you never sound on a recording like you sound to yourself when you speak – it may sound strange, but it is your voice.

      Recording Tips:

      • Make sure you sit close to the microphone or, if you can, raise the microphone to the level of your mouth.
      • Check the volume of the microphone in the Windows control panel.
      • Speak loud and clearly.
    • I can't import a sound file or a file won't play

Chatman can only play the following file formats: MP3, WAV, WMV.

Note: The file duration must be no longer than 30 seconds.

    • I can’t find the stuff I bought on my computer

Don’t worry! All the stuff you got is available to you on the "Downloaded Stuff" section of your My Chatman page. Simply select what you want to re-download and it will all reappear on the software – either in the Chit Chats list or under "More Stuff".

      But remember:

      • You can only download and use the stuff you got with the Chatman you had when you first got it.
      • Also, you can't send downloaded stuff to friends – they need to buy it with credits if they like it.
    • How can I tell that Chatman is properly connected?

Verify that the software connection indicator is green. If it is not, verify that the USB plug is properly connected. If necessary, unplug Chatman, wait and plug it back in. Please allow sufficient time for the indicator to turn green. You should hear your computer beep twice to indicate a device connection.

    • The Chatman software seems disabled – it is grayed out

The Chatman software is grayed out when Chatman is not properly connected to the computer. Please connect your Chatman to the USB port. If you experience problems, see There’s no response from Chatman.

    • I forgot my Parents Area password

There’s no way to recover your password. You will have to uninstall the software and reinstall it in order to reset the Parents Area password.

    • My Chatman is not working – what should I do?

Unplug the USB cable from your computer, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Try using another USB port and avoid using a USB hub or USB extension cable. The connection indicator on the Chatman software should turn green.

Please see the following questions and answers:

"There’s no response when I connect from Chatman to the computer?", "I can't hear Chatman?", "Chatman speaks but doesn't move", "Chatman doesn't respond when I chat with friends".

    • Why does my friend's Chatman react differently to the same words?

Chatman's artificial intelligence engine can cause him to behave differently for different users. Furthermore, Chatman can be taught new words and Chit chats which changes how he reacts and responds.

    • I can’t access games or other areas under the "Games & more" page

Please make sure that your internet connection is working properly.

    • How do I shutdown the Chatman software?

Look for the small Chatman icon in the system tray on the lower right part of the Windows desktop.

Right-click the Chatman icon and then select "Quit".

Note: Closing the software means Chatman will no longer be listening to chat or responding to events.

    • Chatman does not respond to Skype chat

Skype requires that Chatman be approved. When you first installed Chatman and ran Skype, you were supposed to see a message that says "Rondyo.Chatman.ChatmanEngine.exe want to access Skype…" asking you to allow access or deny access.

    • Chatman does not respond to Facebook

First, make sure Chatman is properly connected and can move & talk when you use the Chatman software on your computer.

If it does, make sure you are using either Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome browsers on PC and Safari, Firefox, Chrome browsers on MAC to access the MyChatman.com web site.

If you do, please check your browser's security settings and ensure extensions and add-ons that have a name beginning with "Chatman" are not being blocked. To do this, for Internet Explorer you need to access Tools, Internet Options, Programs and click Manager add-ons. For Firefox, access Tools and click Add-ons.

    • How do I keep my Chatman software updated?

Your Chatman software is updated regularly and automatically from the web. All you have to do is restart the Chatman software once you are notified that an update is available.

If you wish to check for updates right now, click the red arrow in the Tools area
